In this day and age, when PDFs have become synonymous with the work space, it is imperative that you have a tool on your machine that can read PDF files. Docudesk, company that develops professional quality PDF software and has more than ten million customers around the world, has a free, secure, and user friendly PDF reader to offer – deskPDF Reader.

deskPDF Reader is available for all major desktop platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux. The application’s installer for Windows is close to 50MB in size. Download said installer, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard. Just click through the instructions it presents and moments later you will be done with the installation process.

Right in the middle of its interface, the application displays a “Welcome to deskPDF Reader” message. Underneath it there are nice big buttons for: Create PDF, Open PDF, Cehck for Updates. In the upper left hand corner there’s a File Menu and toolbar with buttons for the following functions: open, save, print, send by email, send to PDF Zen, and scan pages. In the upper right hand corner there’s a banner that invites you to start a PDF Editor free trial.

Security – that is one of the main concerns with PDF readers. Because there are numerous zero-day exploits that make PDF readers vulnerable, they have to be constantly updated; and having to constantly update an application can get annoying. Developer Docudesk does not want its products to be frustrating or annoying. That is why deskPDF Reader features ReadSafe technology. This is a sandboxing technology that runs deskPDF Reader in a virtual environment, thus providing efficient protection against exploits, malicious JavaScript, and redirects to malware and phishing sites.

deskPDF Reader nicely puts together the three elements I look for in an application of this type: ease of use, much needed functionality, and security. All of it is offered for free.

Pros

deskPDF Reader is available for multiple platforms. Installing it on a Windows-powered machine is a simple task. You won’t have any problems with the interface. deskPDF Reader features ReadSafe sandboxing technology. deskPDF Reader is free.

Cons

None that I could think of.
